I have been making my own taco seasoning for several years- and I will never buy a packet again!!! I know exactly what is in my taco seasoning- no fillers and chemicals! It is also less expensive!! You can change to suit your preferences, but this is the recipe that works for us! I use 1 T. per pound of meat and just a bit of water- so simple and tastes great! I have not worried about expiration, since we use it up fairly quickly (but it will last as long as the spices you use). I have also used sweetener and that works as well! I hope you like this as much as we do!

Recipe:

Mix together in a small bowl:

  • 1/2 C. Chilli Powder
  • 2 t. Salt
  • 1/3 C. Onion Powder
  • 1 T. & 1 t. Sugar (or Sugar Substitute)
  • 2 1/2 T. Cumin
  • 2 1/2 T. Paprika
  • 2 T. Oregano
  • 2 T. Garlic
  • 1 t. Black Pepper

I store mine in a glass small bowl, just store as you do your spices.  That is it and you now can eliminate all the additives in those little packets!!
